Intervention
At Glenvale State School we believe that continuous student improvement is a shared responsibility of the school community and must include a focus on data-driven, evidence-based intervention. This means that support is directed to different levels of need in response to student achievement data. Prevention, intervention and extension occur in every classroom as teachers cater for all students with explicit teaching episodes, ‘the first line of support’ (Level 1). Intervention and Extension also occur as a collaborative process of targeted teaching for cohorts of students identified in student data analysis (Level 2). In addition, intensive teaching is provided for students at risk of failing to meet year level expectations and who perform below regional and/or national minimum standards (Level 3).
Strong school leadership with a focus on using student data to inform strategic decision-making around intervention is a key to improving and maximising the achievement of all students across the school.
Having high expectations and setting targets leads to improved student achievement when classroom teachers, support staff and school leaders work together to develop a shared understanding of effective intervention practices.
