This Tuesday Mr Lanzafame led the 33 students of Glenvale’s Concert Band on Tour.
After a regular morning rehearsal at school, we visited Glenvale Villas & presented a very well prepared program of various styles of music to a very appreciative audience of residents. After a treat lunch at McDonalds we then travelled to Drayton Villas for a second performance. During each performance individuals and small groups had special pieces to perform which they did with excellence.
All members have shown a wonderful level of commitment with weekly rehearsals (including performances for each parade). With a united goal to achieve their very best this group has found success at a local level, winning a section & being highly commended in another at the Toowoomba Eisteddfod, as well as the Year 6 part of the ensemble performing in Brisbane at Music Fest in Brisbane receiving a Gold Award.
Today was the first public performance for 12 of the students. All students were rewarded for the hard work involved in lessons and rehearsals. Students should be justifiably proud of ‘just how far they have come’.
As we wish the Year 6 students all the very best in starting High School they will be missed from this extremely strong ensemble. The value of teamwork in music groups should not be overlooked. Learning an instrument and joining a band is a source of great joy and life-long friendships for many people.
Sincere thanks to Mr Lanzafame for his strength and inspiration in leading the Concert Band.
We look forward to seeing new students become involved in the Instrumental Music Program (Open to students from Years 4 – 6) and working towards being a member of the Concert Band next year and in the years to come.
It has been a tradition at Glenvale State School to support local families in need at Christmas time by supporting the Salvation Army Toy Drive. We will be doing the Toy Drive again this year with an end of year whole school assembly on Monday December 4th. Families are asked to consider the Toy Drive by providing their child with a new unwrapped toy that the child can bring in to school on Monday December 4th and all toys will be collected on the school assembly.
We all know that times are pretty tough at the moment and the generosity of our community is truly appreciated as we work with the Salvation Army to support our city’s most vulnerable children at Christmas.
Last night we held our final P&C meeting for 2023. On behalf of the whole school community I want to thank the P&C team for what they have achieved this year to support the students, staff and families of this school. In particular, amongst other activities thank you for:
They are a very friendly group to work with and I encourage parents to consider getting involved next year, we have two meetings a term that last approximately an hour. It is an opportunity to find out more about the school, meet some new people and contribute back.
The final school disco for the year is Friday December 1st from 5.30 – 7.00pm and is organsied by the school’s P&C. The theme for disco will be ‘Aussie Christmas’.
This week will see the final week of interschool sport for our Year 5 and 6 students. They are to be congratulated on a great season of competitive and fun games conducted in the right manner. It’s the end of an era for our Year 6 students as they play their final week of interschool sport after two years. Thank you to the students and staff who have done a great job.
We have started our transition afternoons for the Prep 2024 cohort. Children born between July 2018 and June 2019 are eligible for Prep in 2024. Please contact the school to book in for a transition afternoon for Prep 2024 child or to arrange an enrolment interview.

Thanks to the $35k Gambling Fund grant we (Glenvale SS P&C) were successful in obtaining.
We would like to give our biggest THANK YOU! and appreciation to our P&C Secretary Melanie Harrison for being the spearhead in this project. Without her volunteered time, effort and knowledge this wouldn’t have been possible.
We also want to give a big THANK YOU to Robyn Liddelow our tuckshop manager for her time in getting quotes, organising and managing all the trades.
Upgrades include
The P&C love being able to contribute and make a difference for our school and kids.

Important notice for students needing to use crutches or a wheel chair at school
• Students who are required to use crutches or a wheelchair at school need to have a risk management plan in place before they return to school from injury/surgery.
• A Risk Management Plan is developed by the designated school officer in consultation with the parent, student and relevant teachers. It is a plan that details support provisions and structures to ensure student safety across school environments including: PE, classroom, transitions, lunch and eating breaks and toilets.
• Where a student has been advised the use of crutches/wheelchair is necessary parents are required to contact the school office and arrange a suitable time to meet with the designated school officer to develop a Risk Management Plan and schedule necessary training to ensure student safety.
